“Hats?” You say…”Toppers?” You querie…”Fascinators?!?” You ponder in fascination…Yep, kids- we got ‘em. Stovepipes, helmets, bowlers, fedoras, newsboys, bonnets, and even the occasional sombrero has been seen floating through. Why? Because hats make people happy- and that’s a fact.

In other news- starting on Thursday, November 7th and extending through the holidays we will be open every Thursday until 9:00! We may even have a few little treats up our sleeves for you late night shoppers. So whether you find yourself in a sudden millinery crisis, or just want to start getting a jump on the holidays while you can still concentrate (Hats totally help your concentration, btw-it’s a fact.), we’ll be here for you.

Paris on Ponce: No longer top-less.
(Ah-cha-cha!)

Let’s welcome White Glove Gallery with 20% OFF!

Ladies who linger. Ladies who lunch. Ladies of the divine- I am calling you.

Ladies who perfume. Ladies who perfect penmanship. Ladies who pencil skirt- can you hear me?

Yes, darling, you- you of graceful entrances, of train cases, of one-hundred brushstrokes. You of bubble baths, of white gloved hands, of seamed stockings, of coquettish glances, and of very dry martinis…Yes, I am crooking one well manicured finger in your direction- Can you see me?

No? No you can’t? What?!? I’M RIGHT HERE! The one in the rumpled red dress with the puppy hair on one shoulder, and geez- I swear I just did these nails!…The one perpetually rolling her eyes as I answer another telemarketer call while hopping on one foot looking for the other heel and trying not to run my last pair of hose…The one uncorking the bottle of Pino and just taking a swig because I just can’t bare to wash a glass. (And that’s just the kind of day it’s been!)….Oh, yes, right here! It’s me! The hot mess that works, lives, and loves in this kooky madcap life that we all trying to find a little elegance and peace in.

But you know what else I do when I make the time? Buy myself a single red balloon and parade around. Wear pearls and fishnets. Care about underpinnings, and find a lovely little gift for someone-just because. Wear a ribbon in my hair, perfect my eyeliner, and celebrate all of the amazing women that have gone before us, setting a standard of beauty, poise, grace and gentility. And while in our heart of hearts, we probably know that Sophia may have looked like hell when she had the flu, Marilyn may have contorted herself into all kinds of squishy shapes getting those dresses on, and Ava Garner, it’s said, had a mouth like a sailor and was a pretty wild drunk, we are not concerned. We are not concerned, because in short minutes, they were perfect- just as perfect as anyone is that tries. That honors themselves, and that pauses, smiles, and applies a little lip liner with purpose on occasion.

In that tradition, we are ecstatic to introduce to you our newest little shop: White Glove Gallery. Between the fabulous print art, the clothing, the accessories, and perfection that is post war America we invite your inner flirt out to play. And in celebration of your new-found love of all that is powdered, curvy and enchanting, this weekend only:

Everything in White Glove Gallery is 20% Off!

XOXO,

Your little PoP Marche

Paris on Ponce: Awww- crap-did that eyelash fall off again?!?

Survey Says!

Well, hello darlings!

It’s us again, and we need your help! As you may have noticed, in the last two and a half years have sent us into a flurry of revamps, remodels, new owners, and new faces all the way around. We, of course, think that we are pretty awesome, but more than anything-it’s what you dolls think. We know that surveys pretty much suck but we need your help! If you can take a minute and just clickity-clack your feedback, there will be many, many rewards* in your future!

*Rewards may come in the form of karma, found quarters, foggy bar kisses, and hairy, snorty love from Baudelaire.

And you are saying to yourself- madness?!? Goodness- what kind of mayhem are those crazy kids up to at the ye ole’ PoP Marché. And then your mind spins to a complete panic: LABOR DAY! Eeeeek! When did this happen? Wait-what is “Labor Day” anyways?
Quick- pile on all of your white to ivory attire before you explode into a social pumpkin come Tuesday, and we can walk you through this…

There are many theories of why this “labor-free” day exists. Here are our top three contenders:

Theory Numero One: Labor day was a ruse pushed through congress to calm down a bunch of mildly disgruntled union workers after President Grover Cleveland was blamed for the death of a number of workers at the Pullman Strikes of 1896. (That sounds like crazy talk.)

Theory Numerico Dos: Labor day is a celebration of mothers everywhere and the “laboring” that it takes to bring your sweet smiling face into this world. This is also why you wear white before- because that is a messy business- and you know how it is when you wear white- you are basically just asking to get messy…or have a baby. (Yes- this seems like a pretty solid theory…)

Theory Number Trois: Labor day is in honor of the makers of our great American sauces that make outdoor cooking (A Labor Day Standard) possible. Let us expound- ketchup- oh, where would crinkle fries be without you? (Not in this mouth!) BBQ sauce- just try and have a BBQ without this magical peppery sweetness. (Good luck, cheapo!) And to those culinary wizards in the Hidden Valley- let me personally say that had you not combined buttermilk and specialty herbs and spices, many of us would never know what it is to eat “healthy”. (Just iceberg lettuce for me, please!) Really, condiments are doing all of the work really- think about it. And so, to those artisans that craft new ways to make our foods unrecognizable- a most generous thank you and Happy Labor Day! (Yep-this is definitely the winner!)

Plus! Drum roll Please…….SALES! WILD MADCAP KOOKY CRAZY SALES! JUST FOR YOU!
10%-40% off store wide, Saturday through Monday.
Open regular hours- because we care.

Paris on Ponce: Occasionally, a little drunk with idiocy…But fun, very fun. (But drunk, definitely a little drunk sometimes…)

Paris on Ponce: More secret rooms coming out to play! (Get your craft on, my little budgeteers!)

Hey Pinsters! D.I.Y.ers! H.G.T.V.ers! Have we got a treat for you! As you may know, we have rooms and rooms of hidden treasures here, and this weekend we are throwing open the doors of our unfinished warehouse room. This weekend we are clearing out our backstock of unfinished pieces! Chairs, table-tops, legs, ottomans, frames- prepped, unfinished and ready to be your next easy project. Sets of Drexel Heritage new and unupholstered chairs for your one-of-a-kind dining room, dozens of ornate frames for all of your shabby chic chalkboarding, jewelry organization, or textile lined tray needs. Console tops make great vanities, buffets, or-if you’re feeling wild- even console tables! And we’ve got legs, rolls of fabric, and glass tops as well! Wait?!? What?!?

And for all of my budget conscience darlings who are not so handy with a can of spray paint and a screwdriver, we have drummed up a little something for you too!
We have continued our Le Grand sale through this weekend!

Industrial Chic, Sarah Watts, Gypsy Temple are all taking 15% off!

Pascal, CG Creative, Sit and Stare, Redefined Homes, Relics, Roger and Lisa Lou are all 20% off!

And Blanca Rosa, Eutree Forest-Free Furniture, Royal Bohemian and Scott Swanson are up to 30% off!

So make some time- come on down and let us help you redefine your environment in small or major ways, and on any budget.

Office parties never get as Mad Man cheeky as they do in Le Maison Rouge! Book it! Bat Mitzvahs? No one’s topping you with this one! Book it!

Almost every designer here is taking a percentage off of their fine wares- from 10%-25%!

Zow! Stick that in your backpack!

Paris on Ponce: Priority numero uno: Blowing. Your. Mind.

It’s all about re-purposing, retaining, sustainable living that modernizes and surprises while telling true stories of our past- right? It’s about knowing what’s in your home and honoring your community- correct? It’s about making something newly functionally beautiful out of something that was once the heart and soul of a working family.

This is BarnBeautiful. Every piece is handcrafted from antique wood and fixtures from old barns. Every barn is photographed and it’s story documented. And then- get this, mon petit préservationnistes- every item is secretly seared with a serial number that you can quickly look up online! Il est fou, droit? Droit?!? Annnnd….Custom work is available and quick as well!

The result is a perfectly unique gift, whether for yourself, or for someone else who loves true history, and preservation. We welcome them to our little playground, and hope that you have time to pick up a bit of this incredible interpretation of modern living.

Oh, mes petits voyageurs, my little bohemians! Have you been lingering, stretching, and luxuriating in style in this exotic heat and tropical rains?

No? Well, let’s ask ourselves why not? It has been warm, yes? And the rains have been beautifully fierce, correct? And you are a rarified, sexy being that is smart enough to know that you alone choose your reaction to outside influences? That you make the choice to enjoy life (or not) to the fullest at every possible moment, right? And you are well traveled enough to know that living like royalty can be done on a gypsy dime? Yes- yes you do…You may have just forgot for a moment. So rather than dream of an exotic vacation that may not happen any time soon, let us help bring the exotic to you my darlings…Because that is what we do.

From Kerala to Tamil Nadu, from Karnataka to Pondicherry the beautiful souls of Gypsy Temple have collected printed and embroidered pillows, vintage saris, harem pants, leather bound journals, soaps, and finely quilted velvet wingbacks. A brightly embroidered poof, a temple archway, a vintage trunk, a kantha quilt, a velveteen ottoman, candles that make you breath with your soul, embroidered sandals or an incredible bright sitting pillow launches you on the path that will change your trapped humid living room into a tropical lounge of seduction and bliss. And if you have a friend who has strayed off the path of simple joys and peace, a lovey scarf or a strand of vinyl record beads will ease them back to a place where we all should be- a place where the small wonders of the universe are still striking, beautiful and valuable. Where we get out of our little paperwork filled shells and the search for the perfectly mass produced extruded fiber tee-shirt and marvel at the fact that some hardworking person made these beautiful objects with their own hands, and now, and very afford-ably, they are being laid in yours with reverence and love. Namaste.

Paris on Ponce: Doin’ it and doin’ it and doin’ it well.

Springtime is for Birds and Gardens. How about 20%-30% OFF!?!
(Yey! Thank you Paris on Ponce! You’re welcome, mes bébés.)

Little birds. Les petits oiseaux. They are some of the most beautiful, magical creatures ever created. The last few days they have been flocking all around our little Paris on the Ponce- dipping in our fountain, mocking one another, playing, courting.  They are so strange, yet so familiar. To look into a bird’s eyes is to see curiosity, fragility, and pride incarnate. Just like us, they play, they build, they nest, and they have the intelligence and bravery  to change their environment with the seasons. What would a garden be without their fascinating language? Leur chant d’oiseau? So whether you are thinking of celebrating our feathered friends either inside or out, we are celebrating all that our little feathered friends give us this weekend with a 20%-30% off garden and bird related items!Perhaps as well, we love our little songstresses because they have the ability and will to explore the heavens. This year we lost our beloved friend Gordon Stringer. A well known and beloved decorator, Gordon was a fixture around Paris on Ponce and is greatly missed. While he is exploring his next adventure, we are honored to be able to assist his family by selling some of his estate. Beginning today, please come by and see if one of his many treasures may become one of yours. Just like Gordon, it is sure to be blessed with his forever lovely intentions and great cheer.

Paris on Ponce: Constantly enchanted.

“Under the sea
Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin’
Full time to floatin’
Under the sea”
-Best Movie Ever

Take me there. To the sun, the hot sand that envelopes my toes and dissolves the priority of an overpriced pedicure. To the waves, crashing, distroying, creating. Teeming with death, birth, and more life than I can wrap my tiny human brain around. To a place so wide and fierce and beautiful that I finally get over my own nonsense for a minute- and I come again to a place where I am simply…just…human. A creature no more or less special than this very moment, this sound, this blessed day.

One beautiful breath away from the next grand triumph or failure, and the knowledge that I alone judge it as such…Except when you are unprepared for bikini season and just go for it- then yeah, other people have opinions. So caftans- that’s an option, right?

Paris on Ponce: Not trying on bikinis just yet- ’cause that’s just mean.

Mark your Calendar!
Black Friday Sales- The well-known American tradition of commercial sales that starts at approximately 4:00 a.m. the morning after Thanksgiving. Due in part to our love of an evening of laughter and vino, followed by a morning of luxurious sleeping in, and also due to the rumors of tramplings, screechings, parking-lot fights, stealing, stomping, and general mad-house un-fun-ess, this is not a tradition that we sexy, sassy bohemians choose to participate in. Instead- regardez cette: Extended hours all weekend, from 10-7 on Friday the 23rd, Saturday the 24th, and Sunday the 25th. Mimosas, holiday goodies, music, treats and super, super Paris on Ponce sales! Everywhere! Kick off your grand celebrations with us, darlings. And an extra special bonus for American Express card lovers- On Saturday, spend $25 on your AmEx, and they give you $25 back! Wha-WAAA?!?! (We don’t really dabble in “le maths”, but that sounds like pretty much “le free” to us.) Check it out at American Express Small Business Saturday on le webs.

Then….Mark your calenders for our “Holiday Extravaganza!” On Saturday, December 22nd and Sunday December 23rd bring the fam down for music, sales, a puppet show for all ages by David Stephens of All Hands Productions, food, drinks and more!

Pictures with Santa? Oh- the man will be there! More titillations to come- but count on your little merry-makers at Paris, it’s going to get wild…holiday style wild.

Paris on Ponce: So excited!!!!!!!!

The “Tale of the Argyle Arachnophobia.”
Part Two

So as you may recall, mes petits chats apeurés, when we last left them, our heroines- Sonja, Mariana, and Nicolette were bravely trudging back in to the long-shadowed spookiness of a nighttime Paris on Ponce to bolster themselves with some midnight juice boxes. However, it was apparent to all of the girls that Nicolette just couldn’t shake her heebie-jeebies concerning the possible movement to the large spider that they had just installed in the display window. “Geez, guys” she said nervously “I just can’t seem to shake my heebie-jeebies concerning the possible movement of the spider that we just installed in the display window.”
Sonja loved her friend, but sometimes, frankly, she was a bit of a scared-y cat. “Here, Nico” she said, handing her another fermented juice box. “Knock this back and you’ll feel better.”

They began to clean up their big paper mache explosion. Mariana hefted up the bucket of watered mache glue, glitter and paint and skipped off to the kitchen. Sipping and dancing around, Sonja worked on her break-dancing routine for next week’s talent show and Nicolette had whisked away the mess in the twitch of a black cat’s tail. (And by whisked away we mean that Nicolette had scooped up all the left-over craft paper and threw it in the parking lot. Cleaning was not really her “thing”.)

Suddenly there was an enormous crash, a splash and a blood-curling scream ripping its way down the hall, and Mariana flew into the room wide-eyed and covered in milky white paste and glitter. From her hair to her shoes, the panicked pretty girl was a wild mess of fear and general sparkly mayhem.

“What the….?!?” Stuttered a startled Sonja- and in the highest, loudest voice that you can imagine Mariana screamed her go-to letters of exclamation:
“OOOOOO. EEEEEEEMMMM.GEEEE!”

“I saw it! I saw it! I saw it!!!” she stammered.

“Saw what? What?!?” uttered a terrified Nicolette.
Wildly gesturing towards the kitchen, Mariana screamed “The-the-the spider! The Spider! In there!!!”
And then they all could hear it- a scraping, scratching, scurrying shuffle that really couldn’t be anything but a giant fanged spider.

Now, Paris on Ponce is a very big, very old building and if you have ever spent any time there, you know that just about anything is possible. Large paper Marie Antionettes appear overnight, whole walls disappear, Le Maison Rouge bubbles with burlesque and booze, and forgotten history reveals itself everyday- so the fact that a giant paper mache spider just came to life ain’t anything to scoff at. That being said- let’s catch up to our girls:

Sonja has gone stiff and pale, clutching an Exact-O knife in her tight fist, Nicolette has planted her feet and is facing the growing shadow of massive spider legs crawling toward her with a silent scream stretched across her face, and Mariana…well, the second that she stopped pointing to the kitchen, she turned on one cute red heel and started leaping towards the front door.

Snapping to life, Sonja grabbed Nicolette’s sleeve and yanked her towards the exit. But she was frozen to the spot. All of her fears had come true, and she couldn’t move. The shadow was so large it was hitting the top of the 15 ft. ceilings and looming over the girls. Sonja saw what needed to be done and in one quick swoop she clenched the Exact-O between her teeth, grabbed Nicolette around the waist and gracefully flung her over her shoulder. Like nails on a giant chalkboard, the scraping became bone-chillingly loud, and as Sonja ran with Little-Miss-Light-as-a-Feather bouncing on her shoulder towards the door, she didn’t dare to look back.

Sonja’s panting and panic rose to near mind-blowing levels when she reached the parking lot because there, in the middle, flopped on the ground was a passed-out Mariana. She had completely fainted! Once again, her mind racing, Sonja knew what she had to do- she threw Nicolette down on top on Mariana. Nicolette, having lost the composure that her juice boxes usually provided for her with the trauma, began to flail around. Hands on her hips, Sonja watched the inevitable. The glue that had soaked Mariana was now ensnaring Nicolette to her like quicksand-the more she struggled, the tighter the bond. Giving the whole situation a few seconds was all she needed.

She sprinted over to the pile of discarded craft paper that Nicolette had flung into the brush, grabbed it and quickly wrapped the sticky duo into one giant hysterical paper ball. With a mighty shove she pushed the girls towards the slope of the lot and they quickly gained their own rolling momentum.
Having gotten her frantic friends rolling towards the safety of Ponce de Leon at midnight (wait a minute…), Sonja once again planted her feet, plucked her trusty Exact-O from her teeth, and turned her steady gaze towards the door.

Ooooooooooo………What will happen? Will Nico and Mariana get trampled by a mob trying to make it to Chipotle for a midnight burrito? Will Sonja survive the massive mound of possessed craft art to “pop, lock and drop it” at the talent show? Will Mariana ever get the glitter out of her hair?!? EEEEEEKKKKK!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Stay tuned for the conclusion of “”Tale of the Argyle Arachnophobic” in next week’s Paris on Ponce Le Petite Journal.

The “Tale of the Argyle Arachnophobia.”
Part Two

“Tale of the Argyle Arachnophobic.”

PART I

The leaves were falling, the air was getting brisk, and three girls were getting excited for the coming holidays. One night, after another silly day at Paris on Ponce, Sonja, Mariana, and Nicolette decide to stay late and work on a giant paper mache spider for the Halloween window.

“Oh man! This is gonna be great!” squealed Mariana as she ripped up newspaper and dunked it in the mache mix. “We are going to scare everyone!”

Focusing on Fall with new textures and a terrarium class!

It’s seasonal. Cyclical. We all have our yearly rhythms. Winter is for presents, for hot chocolate, for cozying up with a favorite pug. Spring always seems to arrive a little late, the chill of February seems to linger a little too long, and by the time it actually arrives, often we are already plotting our summer lives. Waiting that long for the briskness to shake off of our bones, at the first opportunity we plunge head first into a pool of too much sun, too many cocktails, and a couple of poor clothing choices influenced by too much sun and too many cocktails. Plus- some really fortunate candid moments posted by “friends” on line always makes this crew think that’s it’s time to re-evaluate and clean house.

The air starts to have a little bite, and clean lines, mixed textures, sharp lines and actual art snaps our mojito soaked minds back to attention. As our retinas begin to expand to accommodate overcast days, saturated colors take on a whole new importance in our lives. The hipness of green fluorescence now seems like a tawdry cousin of celedon. The spring lilacs that seemed so sweet are no comparison to the power of fall’s aubergine, and what once was cheery grass green is now mock-able next to the teals and turquoise. Silver-gray is the new ivory, and charcoal is way sexier than the noncommittal blandness of black.

The flippant disposableness of summer fabrics feel suddenly cheap, and we blindly hunger for tapestries, raw silks, velvets and embroidery. Then our fingers-so recently seemingly content with everything plastic and collapsible, now ache for the smoothness of hand-sanded woods, the rough luxury of decaying gilt and gesso, and the slick luxury of enameled steel.
History in accouterments, rich woods, and artisan pieces will sooth your itchy soul. Cross our hearts, my little fall phoenixes.

Speaking of renewing and revamping, if you’ve stopped by recently you know that is pretty much what we specialize in here at our little Paris on the Ponce. So re-find your favorite scarf, switch off the a/c, call a friend for a catch-up date (They have been up to no good this summer, I guarantee it!) and swing on by find the small treasure that launches the whole new you into this coming season’s rich beauty.

Annnnd…if you would like to make that catch-up date after-hours and with a complimentary glass of vino or two, join us for a free evening terrarium class on Wednesday October 3rd, at 7:30! Bring a memento to incorporate, a friend to learn and play with, or just your joie de vivre and let’s have a little down and dirty fun.

Paris on Ponce: On the cusp, on the move, and on the ball! (ish…)

You know one of them. The well traveled, well healed, witty, charming, snarky friend with an airy and whimsical house filled with all kinds of interesting treasures. They have lived three lives and host friends on occasion from the time that they wintered in South Africa, or Venice, or toured with that one punk band through Russia. They tinker like magicians on a kalimba at sunset, and serve blooming teas with a cognac chaser. Their asides are as sharp as the point on their shoes, and their cheese knowledge borders on the suspicious. Their home is neither pretentious or in any way “making do”. Their version of “making do” would be in an intricately embroidered vagabond tent under a Moroccan sky.

Their lives are…..*sigh*….TOTALLY ATTAINABLE! You heard me, darlings- even if you can’t run to Paris this weekend to pick up a scarf that whispers French chic, Lisa Lou did it for you! How about a chair from the Eiffel Tower that’s been torched and gilded- who has that?!! The coolest kid on the block-you, that’s who! Moroccan pillows, double decker route signs from London, portraits from Prague, baskets from Brussels, hand-carved temple ornaments from Thailand, books from Russia, slick mid-century Italian lights, Roman chandeliers, and German road signs could jazz up any home that once drank a bottle of wine and got loose and fast with a credit card and a Pottery Barn catalog.

So press play on that Rosetta Stone again, stock the ice box with some grevenbroker and dunavia, slap on some elbow patches, and instagram your way on down to your own little international marketplace. Life is short, and surrounding yourself with the world is easier than you think here at out little bohemian playground.

Paris on Ponce and PoP Marché: Where the cool kids table lives, and you’re invited.

Balance. Tranquility. Peace. Beauty.
An Asian perspective has settled in at our own little PoP Marché.
Beautifully lacquered teak Chinese coffee tables from the 1950′s. Salvaged temple architecture. Statement necklaces made of bone, glass, and mother of pearl that sing softly of sophistication and elegance. Hand made artisan bags in brilliant hues from Thai Hill tribes. Elegant and whimsical silver and gold threaded slippers. Hand painted market umbrellas. Tall carved mango wood vases. Authentically weathered teak artifacts. Buddha Bamboo urns. Hanging silk and paper Japanese scrolls from the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth century. Minimalist leather satchels. SangHo Park and his “Treasure from Asia” has generously agreed to grace our little bohemian paradise with his sweet presence, and we are serenely happy.
