Happy Father’s Day, Papa!

Wait- what? When? This Sunday?!!! Aaaaaak! What to do, what to get, what to send?!!!
As you go diving headfirst into consumer-surprised-by-another-holiday mini tailspin that includes all stereotypical Dad hobby gifts (Sports! Fishing! Guns! Beer! Tasseled Loafers!) and end up in that aisle at Target, let us very gently remind you of what the man who once powdered your delicates would really appreciate:

“A LITTLE PEACE AND QUIET AROUND HERE-THAT’S WHAT!”

Yep, Daddy would really enjoy sleeping in, someone else mowing the lawn, two fingers on the rocks, and for you to clear the heck out….And take Mom with you while you are at it. That is the best father’s day advice that you will ever get, so listen up, ma petite quenelles. Baudelaire the Pug is not a father, and due to a little “present” on his 6-month birthday, he won’t have to really live the dream that is being bombarded with token gifts from well meaning kids. However- as a man who likes his naps, hits a Hooters on occasion, and owns more tasseled loafers than is socially acceptable (In his defense he does have four feet, though.), he claims he knows what makes any man fulfilled. That includes not wasting your money on stuff he doesn’t need, and not bothering him when he is trying to relax. So make or recycle a card and write this:

Dear (Father, Papi, Dada, Guy-who-kinda-looks-like-me-but-won’t-take-a-paternity-test),
You have always (been there for me, bought me stuff, taught me so much, believed in me, known that I was full of it, held real restraint) and I want you to know that it’s not just this day, but every day that I really appreciate you sticking with me. I do want to make smart, thoughtful decisions that make you proud. So I thought long and hard about what you would want for your one day in 365 that you get to be KING, and I decided that it was to just (not deal with us, be away from Mom, walk around in your underwear, watch “grown-up” movies all day).
So here you go! I’m clearing them all out and taking them to Paris on Ponce, where we can be away for hours and hours.
Uh, you’re welcome,
Your favorite child,
Me.
